The bilateral partnership was essential to the successful implementation of this highly-interdisciplinary study. The project required expert knowledge in (i) HBV/HCV virology, protein structure and bioinformatics (provided by the Project Promoter, the Institute of Biochemistry in Romania); (ii) plant and algae biotechnologies (provided by the Norwegian partner, NIBIO) and (iii) immunology and vaccine development (provided by the “Cantacuzino” Institute in Romania). Although not eligible for funding, the Center for Infection and Immunity of Lille, a traditional collaborator of the Project Promoter, was also partner in this consortium, contributing with the unique expertise in HCV virology and original reagents (in house made HCV monoclonal antibodies and expression plasmids that are not commercially available).
